Central Kentucky's gently rolling hills feature the state's world-famous bluegrass. Although it's mostly green, during the spring bluish-purple buds give the fields a rich blue cast.

This area also has some of the state's most scenic driving routes. Two-lane roads ramble through picturesque farmland. Other routes wind through mountain passes or meander alongside Kentucky's many rivers.

Few states are blessed with greater agricultural diversity than Kentucky. Only three states have more farms than the Commonwealth. Best known for bluegrass horse farms and burley tobacco, Kentucky's economy also includes the largest number of beef cattle in the eastern United States plus the traditional farm crops like vast fields of corn, soybeans and alfalfa hay.

Other industries include coal, steel, and manufacturing. Kentucky's bourbon distilleries, scattered throughout the central part of the state, make up another strong industry. Many were built in the early part of the century and possess large warehouses and unique architecture. Kentucky is also home to the world's one-and-only Corvette plant and Toyota's Camry plant.

Military bases have been proven locations, as well. Stripes was filmed at Fort Knox with the cooperation of the U.S. Army. The army base also worked with the studio to make the set realistic for the James Bond feature film Goldfinger. The range area used for tank and artillery training at Fort Knox covers more than half of the base.

Kentucky's Fort Campbell, the nation's third largest army post, is the home of the Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne Division.
