Mystery at Locust Grove
A short film showcasing historical Locust Grove
Logline:
Five precocious Pendleton kids attempt to track down a treasure
they believe Lewis and Clark discovered on their expedition out
west and brought home to Kentucky.
Synopsis:
It isn't so much that Scott doesn't like history, it's just that
he's more interested in how the buildings might be demolished
than any historical significance they might hold. His opinion
of history takes a drastic turn, however, when he and his older
brother, James, discover a cryptic set of letters and numbers
carved into the molding over one of the doors in the Locust Grove
house in Louisville, KY. Excited, they recruit their older sister,
Rachel, to decipher what they believe is a clue, and their younger
siblings, Matthew and Lydia, to help search for the next clue.
The Pendleton kids bring history to the present in their search
for what they believe could be a lost treasure from Lewis and
Clark's expedition out west. This short film explores Locust Grove
and champions family unity.
Script Length: 18 pages.Characters:
Rachel Pendleton, 15, loves to take things apart, see how they
work, and put them back together again.
James Pendleton, 13, an artist, loves to paint, play instruments,
and work on projects with his family.
Scott Pendleton, 11, outgoing and spunky, loves anything that
blows up. Plans to be a demolition engineer when he grows up.
Matthew Pendleton, 9, follows Scott around and generally helps
with blowing things up.
Lydia Pendleton, 7, loves anyone nice and anything pretty. She
likes watching James work.
Mom Pendleton, 35-45, cheerfully puts up with a lot.
Miss Lacy, 30-60, the tour guide at Locust Grove.
Clerk, 20-50, the lady behind the counter at Locust Grove
Extras, 20-60, other people in the tour at Locust Grove
Mystery at Locust Grove will have an Internet release and will
be available on DVD upon request. There is a possibility it will
be entered into film festivals. The goal with this short film
is to create a Proof of Concept to be used in procuring investment
capital for a feature that builds off this idea. Being cast in
this project does not guarantee a role in the feature.
Abigail and Naomi DeHaan are an award-winning sister writer/director
team with one feature, The Audit, under their belts. The Audit
won the Best Feature Award at the 2009 World Independent Film
Expo in Richmond, KY and is an official selection in the 2009
KingDomWood Christian Film Festival in Georgia. Their long-term
goal is to bring family-value films to the big screen.
